Baldur's Gate 3 Modding has arrived for PC gamers. After a closed alpha in June and an open beta in July, the long-awaited Patch 7, which may be the game's last major update, is now live. It lets you play around with user-created weapons, armor, classes and subclasses, spells, dice skins, and pretty much anything else you can imagine.
Mods are available through an official mod manager (powered by mod.io) within the game and external channels. “We will never prevent the creation of mods outside of our own official channel,” Larian Studios states. wroteBut the developer says its officially approved mods are meant for stability and cross-platform compatibility. “It will also ensure a smoother experience, at the cost of more script-focused modding, which can still be done outside of our development process,” the studio wrote.
Larian said earlier this summer that Baldur's Gate 3 Mod support is reportedly coming to PC first, with Mac and consoles coming soon after. But the developer clarified in an update today that console (PS5 and Xbox Series x/S) and macOS players can expect Patch 7 in October.
This presents some short-term compatibility issues. If you want your save game files to work across PC and console, you'll have to wait for Patch 7 to be installed on your PC. However, cross-platform save game compatibility will return in October when the update rolls out to PlayStation, Xbox, and Apple devices.
Larian says patch 7 is in Baldur's Gate 3The console versions of 's will include “an additional vetting process” to determine which mods will be available on all platforms. “While not all PC mods will be available on console, we will be sure to publish guidelines to help you understand what type of content will pass our necessary checks, without blocking any unsupported creative mods on PC, so that we can continue to support the modding community both on and off our official channel,” the studio said. wrote.
Mod support isn't just a fun perk for players; it's also a way for Larian to keep the game alive while pouring resources into new projects. CEO Swen Vincke said in June that opening the door to mods would allow the developer to “say 'ok, it's completely yours now.'” according EurogamerOf course, the studio will continue to release updates to fix critical bugs, but the arrival of Patch 7 today is likely the first stage of closing one of the best games of 2023.
