Several media outlets that received the Republican vice presidential candidate's investigative file leaked by hackers opted not to publish the sensitive document since it contained personal information. Klippenstein deemed the dossier newsworthy and decided to post it on Substack and its social media channels, with one of them deleting his account.
Engadget has seen the file and can confirm that the details mentioned by x's security team are present and not redacted in Klippenstein's copy of the document, except for the last four numbers of Vance's social security number.
Klippenstein explained his decision to buck the media trend and post Senator Vance's dossier on his Substack. President Trump's campaign has accused Iran's government on more than one occasion of hacking into his files and releasing the dossier in June. Other media outlets chose not to publish the document, but Klippenstein says he felt they refused “for fear of finding themselves at odds with the (U.S.) government's campaign against 'foreign malign influence,'” referring to the Organization of the National Counterterrorism Center of the same name that seeks to avoid interference in the elections.
“I don't agree,” Klippenstein added. “They have offered me the file and I have decided to publish it because it is of great public interest in the midst of electoral times.”
The suspension extends beyond Klippenstein's account. x has bookmarked the link to the file and automatically prevents anyone who tries to post it. Those that do receive a warning from x that says, “We cannot complete this request because x or our partners have identified this link as potentially harmful.”
“ in concert” with them.
