Microsoft's Phone Link app warns that Android smartphones running the latest version of Android 15 will not show certain “sensitive” notifications. <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/MishaalRahman/status/1867438631423475833″>according to a publication by Mishaal Rahman seen by Windows Center.
The warning is the result of a Android 15 Privacy Feature which automatically categorizes notifications such as those containing 2FA codes as “sensitive” and prevents third-party apps from seeing them. That extra bit of privacy could come in handy if you've unknowingly given a malicious app permission to access your notifications. But it could be an inconvenience if you frequently rely on seeing 2FA codes appear on your computer via Phone Link.
According to Rahman, Windows should still show sensitive notifications for Android devices on which Phone Link comes pre-installed and has requested a “companion device role.” That includes Samsung phones running One UI 6.1.1, but not other Android phones like the Google Pixel or Nothing Phones, he writes. Windows Central.
Rahman wrote in October that users could bypass the notification hiding feature by turning off “Enhanced Notifications” in Android 15's notification settings. However, doing so also disables things like reply suggestions and could once again make it easier for malicious apps to collect details of all your notifications.
