TikTok's next instagram-competing photo-sharing app could be called TikTok Notes, according to x.com/heyalexfriedman/status/1777133635809755220″>screenshots aware by users. TikTok also confirmed that the app was in development.
In recent days, TikTok users have received pop-up notifications about a new photo-sharing TikTok Notes app.
The notification says the company will soon launch “a new photo posting app” called TikTok Notes and that users' existing photo posts will be shared on the app. Users can also opt out of sharing their image posts in the new app.
TikTok confirmed that it is working on the application, but specified that it is not available yet.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to innovating the TikTok experience, we are exploring ways to empower our community to create and share their creativity with photos and text in a dedicated space for those formats,” a TikTok spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Separately, a URL owned by TikTok photo.tiktok.com (web file link) displays a placeholder marketing image with the text “Open in TikTok Notes.”
Last month, code and language found in TikTok's APK file (an installable file format for Android) suggested that the company has been working to launch a photo-sharing app called TikTok Photos.
However, the latest pop-ups within TikTok suggest that the company could be considering another name for the app.
Both TikTok and Meta compete fiercely for social media space. As the ByteDance-owned app prepares to launch a photo-sharing related app, Meta has launched a vertical video player for facebook.
TikTok is also experimenting with different formats, such as 30-minute long videos and even text posts like x and Threads.
