Threads is about to start testing the ability to schedule posts, according to instagram's Adam Mosseri. “Responses cannot be programmed” addedand explains that “we want to strike a balance between giving people more control in planning their posts on Threads while also encouraging real-time conversation.”
Mosseri also makes sure to point out that instagram has been working on this feature “for months.” I choose to take it as a sign that the head of instagram is fed up with the notion that Bluesky is the motivating factor behind every new improvement that comes to Threads. Last week, Threads featured curated collections of people to watch, drawing comparisons to Bluesky's starter packs.
Yesterday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads now has more than 100 million daily active users, marking the first time the company has revealed a DAU figure for its competitor twitter/x. Threads also has over 300 million monthly active users. No matter how Meta calculates those numbers, Bluesky objectively remains much smaller.
instagram has long offered the option to schedule feed posts and this week announced that the same convenience will extend to direct messages.
