This week we saw some fun trailers that tap into heady sci-fi, comic book movies, and taboo horror, each with a fun mixed-genre twist. Joker: Folie à Deux is a comic book movie about the love story of the Joker and Harley Quinn that is also a musical and the Apple TV Plus remake. Dark matter The series is a kidnapping thriller with an interesting alternate reality twist. Then there is Maxxxxinea horror slasher that seems to also be a crime mystery whodunnit.
Joker: Folie à Deux analyzes the origin of the romance between the Joker and Harley Quinn, which has been explored in some of the best episodes of Batman: the animated series and slightly highlighted in 2016 suicide squad. This movie is supposed to be a “jukebox musical,” you know, like Red windmill, except it's about a couple of murderous lovers with unconventional ideas about jokes. It will be released on October 4.
Dark matter'The main character's physique is kidnapped and dragged to another reality by a parallel version of himself. It stars Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley, and will be out May 8 on Apple TV Plus. Apple has had some absolute sci-fi hits; my personal favorites have been For all humanity and Hello morning!and I'm enjoying Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, too (although I'm not over it yet). It begins airing on May 8.
Maxxxxine is the third film in a trilogy that follows an adult film star named Maxine Minx (Mia Goth), who tries to break into Hollywood against the backdrop of a serial killer called “The Night Stalker.” Like the previous films, x and PearlIt is about a specific decade, this time the 1980s. Maxxxxine It also stars Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon. It will be released on July 5.
Another Apple movie Take me to the moon Imagine Scarlett Johannson as a marketing executive named Kelly Jones, who has been hired by NASA to film a fake Moon landing in case the real one fails. Channing Tatum plays launch director Cole Davis, who is in charge of making the actual landing a reality. And of course, the trailer can't resist a nod to the old conspiracy theory that Stanley Kubrick filmed the first Apollo moon landing. Its other stars include Anna Garcia, Jim Rash, Noah Robbins, Ray Romano and Woody Harrelson, and it hits theaters on July 12.
