The omnikeys Bauer LiteOne of my favorite keyboards of the year, it's down to just $95 ($25 off) this week as part of Omnitype. Black Friday sale in progress. I paid full price for mine earlier this year and it was a bargain. It feels great to type on, has a great design, is customizable and fun to build, and is colorful. What is it not to love?
The Bauer Lite has a plastic casing that comes in a variety of fantastic translucent colors, from clear to atomic purple, bright blue, seafoam, coral, dark red, and my personal favorite: neon orange. This is great news if your brain can sometimes be tricked, like mine, into feeling a little happier with a flush of fluorescent color.
It comes as a starter kit, meaning you have to provide your own keycaps, switches, and stabilizers, so it will cost upwards of $95 to actually build. You also have to assemble it yourself, but it's pretty easy and the kit comes with a full instruction manual. I used <a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/DUROCK-Stabilizers-Translucent-Keyboard-Mechanical/dp/B0B2RVN19F?tag=theverge02-20″>Durock stabilizers and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Switch-Linear-Dustproof-Mechanical/dp/B0D2D3ZGZ5?tag=theverge02-20″>Kailh Silent Deepwater Islet linear switches in my build, which I recommend.
The Bauer Lite has no lighting (RGB or not) or wireless connectivity. It also only comes in a 65 percent layout, with or without split backspace, and with 1.5u bottom row modifiers and a 7u spacebar, so make sure your keycaps include those keycaps.
