People using third-party Twitter clients face a number of issues including the inability to log in and access Twitter feeds. Tweetbot, Echofon, and Twitterrific, three popular third-party Twitter apps, confirmed the issues, saying they’re not sure what caused the glitch.
The creators of these apps also complained about these issues on Mastadon. Twitterrific developer Sean Heber said, “Did Twitter just kill third-party customers?” while Tweetbot’s Paul Hadad said: “I’m hoping whatever’s going on on Twitter is just an automated spam protection bot incorrectly suspending the right apps.”
In an email response to TechCrunch, Haddad said the issue started around 7:30 p.m. PST today. He also mentioned that all the API requests from the applications are failing.
Twitter may have made some changes to its API for third-party clients that caused these apps to crash. It is not clear if this is a step to prevent access to the platform.
In addition to the apps mentioned above, users complained about not being able to access Twitter from clients like Phoenix, twitter, PenY Claw. So the only way to access Twitter is through the official client or the website.
a post on the Twitter developer forum said that on the developer portal, these apps show up as “Suspended”.
