In the history of modern gaming handhelds, Sony was there in the early days with the PSP and Vita. Both were well-regarded, if flawed, and lived and died long before the Switch and Steam Deck era. So it would be reasonable to expect the new PlayStation Portal, which marks Sony’s return to laptops, to be a triumph. Yes. About that.
Portal is a $200 handheld that can only stream from your own PlayStation 5, whether at home or when you’re on the go. There are no local titles or anything new, it’s just a way to play on your own PS5 when the TV is not available. Devindra Hardawar has been testing one for a while and the obvious flaws remain obvious.
If your Internet connection isn’t strong, then the Portal isn’t very useful, especially when you can get a portable dock for much less money. It doesn’t help that Sony isn’t the best at seamlessly integrating its hardware and software, so things one would expect to be perfect are anything but. Click to read Devindra’s full review, but if you’re a Sony fan, it might be best to hide behind your hands while you do it.

Popular ai Platform Introduces Reward System to Encourage Deepfakes of Real People
Oh, grow up, people.
There are many words that a respectable newsletter writer cannot use when describing how people behave online. You’ll have to imagine how I would like to describe the operators and members of an ai marketplace that encourages its users to create the most realistic deepfakes of real people. These aren’t just creepy requests from celebrities, which would be bad enough, as journalists also found fake requests from private citizens.

2023 has been a strange year for the gaming industry, combining highs with lows. The Game Awards nominee list reflects the former, as we’ve had a stellar lineup of new releases this year. It says a lot about the quality of the year that it’s difficult to identify a definitive winner for Game of the Year.
