Meta’s Threads continues to grow, while the service it imitates, X, continues to fail and fall apart. Mark Zuckerberg said that Threads currently has “just under” 100 million monthly active users and that the app could reach 1 billion users in the coming years.
Threads gained 100 million signups in its first week, with easy ways to create an account from your existing Instagram profile. However, engagement declined amid complaints about limited functionality and feeds flooded with spam posts from brands and users with large Instagram audience numbers. I wasn’t interested in the fragmented thoughts of startup executives with a podcast. Shocking, I know.
Since then, Meta has steadily added new features, and engagement seems to have picked up in recent weeks as Elon Musk continues to make unpopular changes to X, like removing link headlines and, well, all the other stuff.

The best explanation for this addition is Elon Musk’s goal of making X the “do-it-all” app, a one-stop shop for multiple features and services.
