I know what you're about to say: “reMarkables are not e-readers!”, which I totally agree with. They may have e-paper screens, but they are in no way real e-readers, and I'm just being a big dumb goose. That said, you can upload DRM-free ePub files to the board if you use the company's own transfer app.
All reMarkables support formatting, and you can even modify and highlight text in them, which will be transferred to cloud-based saved files. If you're elbow-deep in a textbook and need to jot down some notes quickly, it would make a lot of sense to use one of these things. Plus, if I were on a long-haul flight, I'd sometimes opt for the extra screen instead of my little Kindle.
Plus, if you're getting it for its potential as an e-reader, you might also enjoy its actual purpose as a distraction-free writing board. As I wrote in our review, the Type Folio is pretty essential if you want to be really productive with it, but it's worth the cost. — Daniel Cooper, senior reporter
