The training tracking app Strava has a History of being used to stalk people.identifying where they live or their typical career paths (check this out) Reddit thread of people feeling sorry for each other(For example). While the platform has some security features, a new tool should make it easier to confirm privacy settings immediately after an activity. Strava is launching Quick Edit, which gives all users immediate access to edit and configure privacy settings in the app after syncing an activity.
Quick Edit lets you tweak some aspects of your activity, like who can see the details. It also gives you the option to quickly hide certain information, like your start time, pace, or heart rate. You can even choose to hide your entire route and map. These features already exist in Strava, but Quick Edit can be useful if you're running somewhere new and forgot to change your settings, or if you're leaving home and want to keep your address private. Essentially, it can be that extra reminder to check that your privacy settings are as secure as you want them to be. If you skip the Quick Edit screen, Strava will apply your default settings.
The new feature also has some non-safety options to explore. Quick Edit will prompt you to customize your activity title and upload photos and videos you've taken while exploring. Just remember, if you make your map private, don't counter that by sharing anything that can identify exactly where you are. You can also access advanced edits like specific gear and workout types through the Quick Edit screen.
