Happy days. Massive and Ubisoft have heard the complaints and with Star Wars Outlaws. The players know what I'm talking about. They're those awesome stealth missions that automatically fail as soon as someone is detected. A new patch allows the game to continue, even after being caught, so players can try to shoot their way out of a situation.
The developers say that this change was implemented so that players can decide whether they prefer stealth or combat in a given scenario. Drew Rechner, creative director of Star Wars Outlawsnotes that the development team has removed “forced stealth from almost all mission objectives.” However, stealth is still an option for any of these objectives. It's just not necessary.
“Star Wars Outlaws represents a true scoundrel experience for us, and since Kay and Nix are street thieves by trade, stealth will always be an option for players who prefer that style of play,” the developers wrote in a blog post. “We listened to your feedback and are implementing changes that allow more freedom for players and embrace more play styles.”
The update also improves detection mechanics while operating in stealth mode, as pre-existing enemy ai “could be unpredictable and inconsistent.” Now players will be able to choose stealth, action or, of course, a combination of both. My preferred method will be stealth until I'm caught, which should be about five seconds after entering an enclosure.
Today's build expands the player's options in other ways beyond removing forced stealth objectives. Players can now pick up and hold weapons for longer periods of time in the field, and the developers have added “more opportunities to use them in various scenarios.” Combat also received another update, as players will now be able to target additional parts of the enemy's body beyond the head to “exploit weak points.”
Update 1.4 even includes some mild graphical improvements, thanks to a refined camera system that improves focus. To accompany today's update, Ubisoft has released a story DLC called Wildcard. Everyone's favorite villain-turned-hero, Lando Calrissian, is a major player in this expansion.
Star Wars Outlaws but Massive and Ubisoft have been busy improving the game since its release. The game now features with a complete overhaul of the statistics of various weapons and enemies.
