We’re just a day away from the Wednesday launch of Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset, and ahead of its launch, the company is sharing details about Gran Turismo 7’s VR mode and in 10 new games that will be available within the “launch window” of the device.
Let’s start first with Gran Turismo 7. As part of the game’s free 1.29 update, which is available now, PSVR 2 will support all gameplay except two-player split-screen.GT7 takes full advantage of the next-generation features of PS VR2, using specially optimized HDR tone mapping, as well as improved rendering of the eye-tracking feature (a technology that renders areas of the screen the player is looking at directly in high definition ), and dynamic 3D audio support, gamers will experience a whole new dimension of highly immersive gaming.” – Sony’s Ken Chan wrote in a blog post.
The 1.29 update doesn’t just add VR features. PS5 players will also be able to race against a “superhuman racing AI racing agent” called Gran Turismo Sophy. GT Sophy has already been able to beat the human drivers, and now he can see if he has what it takes to beat the AI. (Though she’ll be careful with Sophy’s emotes, which will appear in-game while she’s running. Let’s hope Sophy stays calm.) Sophy’s races will be available from February 21 (today) until “end of March”, and Sony plans to use feedback from races to “improve the GT Sophy Race Together mode feature for future releases”.
As for the broader lineup of PSVR 2 games, Sony now says that the launch window will include more than 40 games. Sony has detailed some of the games you can expect in this blog postincluding titles like Another fisherman’s tale, ragnarok, ben sushiand Unplugged: Air Guitar. The listing looks promising, but Sony is using the words “launch window” rather loosely for some of these; Another fisherman’s tale and ben sushi having vague release deadlines of “later this year”, for example.
And we’ll be learning about more PSVR 2 games very soon, as Sony promises to show off information on five new games coming later this year. in a State of Play on Thursday.
