Samsung has announced a trio of new gaming monitors before CES 2024. There's the 49-inch curved ultra-wide Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD), the 32-inch flat Odyssey G8 OLED (G80SD), and the 27-inch flat Odyssey G6 OLED (G60SD). The last two are the first flat monitors that Samsung has added to its Odyssey line.
As I am a simple man with simple desires, the Odyssey OLED G6 is the most interesting of these models to me on paper. This is due to its frankly excessive 360Hz refresh rate, which it matches with a 1440p resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Samsung Display announced the start of mass manufacturing of these super fast OLED panels last monthand the tastes of Dell and M: YES It also appears to be using them in its upcoming monitors.
Do I really think I will be able to perceive the difference in refresh rate between a 240Hz and 360Hz refresh rate on an OLED? Almost certainly not. But the larger number warms the cockles of my heart anyway.
Next in line is the Odyssey OLED G8, a 32-inch 4K flat monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate. And then there's the Odyssey OLED G9, which is 49 inches, it's curved, refreshes at 240Hz and has a 32:9 aspect ratio with a 5120 x 1440 resolution. There's no 32-inch, 1440p option, like Samsung has previously offered with its G7 Odyssey.
Both high-end monitors will be equipped with a host of Samsung smart features, including a built-in Smart TV platform for accessing video streaming services, a Gaming Hub with access to cloud gaming services, and a SmartThings hub for IoT control. compatible. devices. There's also “Multi Control,” a feature Samsung says will allow the monitors to transfer text and images between compatible Samsung laptops, tablets and phones.
All three monitors feature a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification for a maximum brightness of at least 400 nits and support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Each is equipped with two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, and integrated USB hubs. Exact pricing or release dates have yet to be confirmed, but they are expected to be available for purchase later this year based on Samsung's previous monitor release schedules.
