Samsung Electronics Han Jong-Hee executive dies at 63

Han Jong-Hee, the executive co-chair of Samsung Electronics and a veteran of almost four decades of the South Korean consumer technology giant, died on Tuesday.

Mr. Han, who was 63 years old, suffered a sudden heart attack, according to a company spokeswoman.

Mr. HA had shared since 2022 Executive Directors with the head of the Samsung semiconductor business, more recently Jun Young-Hyun. Jun was appointed the only executive director of Samsung Electronics on Tuesday after Mr. Han's death, the company said in a public notice.

Samsung Electronics represents a significant portion of exports of the country. Samsung is one of the most popular brands in the global smartphone market, where it competes with Apple and Xiaomi. It is also the largest memory chips manufacturer in the world used in everything, from electric cars and smart watches to advanced artificial intelligence servers.

Mr. His wife and three children have survived, said the company. On Thursday a funeral will be held at the funeral hospital of the Samsung Seoul hospital, said the spokeswoman.
