It's that quiet late December period for tech news. Still, along with our usual tech retrospectives in 2024, the Russian government is cracking down on cryptocurrencies and the final seasons of the hit Netflix phenomenon are on the way.
First, according to reports from the state-run Tass news agency, the Russian government banned crypto mining in ten regions for six years. Russia has cited the industry's high energy consumption rates as the main reason behind the ban. crypto mining operations already account for nearly 2.5 percent of energy use in the United States. The Russian ban comes into effect on January 1 and lasts until March 15, 2031. The currency has only been fully legal in Russia since November.

The “indoor gardening gadget” is an ambient lighting and a grow light all in one.
LG's latest high-tech lamp does double duty as a planter. LG says the lamp with a circular shade illuminates the LEDs in five different intensities on the plants you want to grow. Then, at night, the lights are turned upward to create cozy ambient lighting. The tallest floor lamp can hold up to 20 plants at a time and you don't need to worry about watering. There is a 1.5 gallon tank built into the base of the lamp.
