Ring is rebranding its subscription products, ditching Ring Protect in favor of Ring Home, and to celebrate, bringing some new features. The most notable change is the addition of 24/7 recording if you own certain wired video doorbells, ensuring you don't miss anything if a motion alert isn't triggered. You'll also receive previews of video clips sent via push notifications, rather than having to wait for the app to open.
Additionally, users can now get Extended and Continuous Live View options for their cameras, allowing them to keep an eye on what's happening when they need to. Extended Live View, for example, will increase the time limit for looking at a camera from 10 minutes to 30, while Continuous removes the limit entirely. You'll also receive doorbell calls, which trigger a phone call that will connect directly to your smartphone when someone is knocking at the door.
The prices for each of the new Ring Home tiers will remain the same as their Ring Protect predecessors, at least for now. Home Basic costs $4.99 per month, while Home Standard costs $9.99 per month and Home Premium costs $19.99 per month. As you'd expect, Extended Live View and Ringing are available on the Standard tier, while Continuous Live View and 24/7 recording are unlocked on the Premium tier.
As for why the tiers were changed, it is to allow users to incorporate additional packages from Ring's growing ecosystem of security products. It says that when the change goes into effect on November 5, you'll be able to add Virtual Security Guard and Alarm Professional Monitoring to the same plan.
