Reddit says it has “restored services” after a major outage that reportedly stopped uploading posts and comments.
I had observed a few different problems. When I logged out, I couldn't see any posts or comments; You would simply receive an error message or a blank page below the Reddit search bar. When you sign in to an account that No In Reddit's old design, posts loaded on the home page, but when you clicked on a post on the home page, comments didn't. (When using that account, posts were also not uploaded to specific subreddits.) Interestingly, on my account that uses the old Reddit layout on my desktop browser, I was able to navigate the platform without any issues.
Reddit confirmed there was an issue in a post at 12:47 pm ET. “We are investigating an issue that has left many of our web and mobile platforms unavailable.” the company wrote on its website. “First responders are working to restore service.” At 1:22 p.m. ET, the company said it had “identified the issue and we will bring services back online.” Things began to recover quickly; Shortly after I first published this post, things started to look up.
At 2:17 p.m. ET, Reddit said things were largely fixed. “We have restored services to customers and will take steps to ensure a full and sustained recovery.” The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
