Firewalk Studios’ upcoming debut game, the 5v5 team-based shooter Concord, will be available to all PlayStation Plus members this weekend. Customers who have pre-ordered the game and PS Plus subscribers will be able to try out the multiplayer FPS starting Friday, July 12 at 12pm (US Eastern Time).
The game’s beta window on PS5 and PC was initially intended solely for customers who had pre-ordered the game (if you’ve already pre-ordered the game, you’ll still receive beta access and codes for your friends whether you’re a PS Plus subscriber or not). Opening it up to PlayStation Plus members gives developer Firewalk Studios and publisher PlayStation Studios the benefit of additional player feedback, server stress testing, and a chance to find bugs and work on balance. And of course, it allows them to build further anticipation for the new IP.
The 16 characters (“Freegunners” with non-traditional roles) will be unlocked and available during the early access weekend, which ends on July 14. PS5 players can pre-download the Concord The beta will begin Thursday at noon ET. In the meantime, an open beta will invite anyone to try out the FPS next weekend (July 18 at noon ET through July 21).
Three game modes will be available during Early Access this weekend: Clash Point (round-based, no-respawn matches where you try to capture a zone), Trophy Hunt (a respawn-based reward-collecting mode), and Cargo Run (a no-respawn mode where you retrieve a package, place it in a zone, and defend it). You can try out four maps in preview: Freewater, Star Chamber, Water Hazard, and Shock Risk.
Next weeks Concord The open beta will add a new mode, Area Control (teams compete to control zones with respawns enabled), and another map, the sinister Bone Mines.
The developers say that rewards will carry over from this weekend's early access to next weekend's open beta, but none will carry over to the game's launch on August 23. Firewalk Studios listed the PC specs supported by the beta on its blog post announcementalthough he warns that these could change before the final version.
Firewalk Studios is a Sony-owned team founded by (among others) three Bungie veterans who worked on the Destiny franchise. Other members of the studio come from Respawn, Activision, and BioWare, which gives shape to the team's credentials in the world of multiplayer shooters. ConcordThe developers appear to borrow elements from Overwatch, Destiny, and Halo, while adding non-traditional player classes and narrative and character elements similar to Guardians of the Galaxy.
