Opera will add a tool powered by ChatGPT to its sidebar that generates short summaries of web pages and articles. The feature, called “shorten,” is part of the company’s broader plans to integrate artificial intelligence tools into its browser, similar to what Microsoft is doing with Edge.
As it is shown in a demonstration included in the Opera blog post, you can activate the feature by selecting the “shorten” button to the right of the address bar. From there, a sidebar with ChatGPT will appear from the left, which will then generate a neat, bulleted summary of the article or web page you’re viewing.
“We are excited to see the rapid launch of development programs for solutions like Google Bard, for example, and we are beginning to build and launch new web browsing experiences that not long ago seemed impossible to achieve,” Per Wetterdal. , says Opera’s head of strategic partnerships and AI ecosystem in a statement.
However, the “shorten” function is not yet available to everyone. Jan Standel, vice president of marketing and communications at Opera, tells the edge that it will be “launching in browsers very soon”. Opera is also working on other AI-powered features that “augment” the browsing experience and plans to add “popular AI-generated content services to the sidebar,” though it’s not yet clear what that might entail.
