Nomad is correcting a minor design mistake it made last year with its three-in-one MagSafe charging stand. Like its predecessor, the New Stand One Max For 2024, this is a multi-wireless charger that supports iPhone, Apple Watch, and a set of AirPods. However, you can now charge all of those devices with the phone in landscape orientation, which lets you use Apple’s clever StandBy mode to get at-a-glance information like the time and weather. The new stand is also Qi2 compatible, and at $150, it actually costs $30. more economical than the launch price of the original, something I love to see.
Aside from that, the new Stand One Max (which Nomad is calling the “third generation” to fall in line with other models in its line, though it’s only the second iteration) has a lot in common with the original. It comes in silver or black, includes a detachable 2-meter/6.6-foot USB-C cable in the same color (but not the required 30W power adapter), supports fast charging for Apple Watches, and is made of metal and glass. The new model weighs only slightly more, at 1.9 pounds (compared to the original’s 1.8 pounds), and that’s likely because the base is about 0.75 inches longer to accommodate the new placement of the Watch charger, clearing the way for a phone mounted horizontally on top.
Qi2 may not be commonplace on phones just yet, with only one phone supporting it so far and some upcoming flagships lacking it. But the dream is that one day, in the (hopefully) near future, chargers like the Stand One Max will enable similarly fast charging at up to 15W on both Androids. and iPhones, all with the convenience of magnets that secure the phone in place. Qi2-compatible chargers are already becoming fairly common across a variety of brands, so if you're going to spend a significant amount of money on one of Nomad's fancy multi-home chargers, it's a good thing it's Qi2-compatible, too.
