People are so excited for the next-gen Switch that they're probably holding off on buying Nintendo's current consoles and games. At least that's what the company says. latest earnings report seems to indicate. For the quarter ending June 30, Nintendo aware Nintendo has posted a net profit of 80.9 billion Japanese yen, higher than its forecast but 50 percent lower than its net profit for the same period last year. In addition, the company said it sold only 2.1 million Switch consoles in the quarter, a 46.3 percent drop in unit sales year-on-year. Even its games haven't been selling well, with Nintendo posting software sales figures 41.3 percent lower than the previous year, with 30.64 million units sold.
In its report, Nintendo admits that the low game sales figures are due to the lack of major releases, such as last year. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Super Mario Bros. movie It also helped to “boost” its business back then. But with hardware sales this quarter being similar to last, Nintendo considers its Switch sales to be stable.
Nintendo is expected to release its “Switch 2” console soon. It was expected to come out sometime this year, but according to reports in the previous months, it will be released in early 2025. Very little is known about the upcoming console yet, but rumors say it will feature backwards compatibility as well as 4K capabilities.
