what's new from disney Star Wars show, The acolyteis just a month away on Disney Plus, and the latest trailer hints that the show will pull a thread that Rian Johnson Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi picked up in 2017: Is the Jedi Order Really That Good?
Set long before the events of Star Wars prequel trilogy, The acolyte sees High Republic-era Jedi master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) investigating a series of murders (including at least one Jedi). Today's trailer reveals that the mysterious Mae (Amandla Stenberg), dressed in black, is a former student of his and seems likely to be a suspect in the murders. She also reinforces the idea that this will be a particularly bleak series.
It also features a zipper-faced villain whose red lightsaber comes to life in a misty jungle, seemingly just before a fight with Sol. It's a mystery who wears the scarred helmet, which looks more than a little like that of Kylo Ren in the most recent one. Star Wars trilogy. Maybe it's the big bad of the series, or maybe it's just a creepy dream Sol is having. Or perhaps Disney is preparing to tell us the Sith legend of the “Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise” that Emperor Palpatine gifted Anakin Skywalker with in Star Wars Episode III.
One thing's for sure: whoever this villain is, he's upholding the long tradition of the Sith (assuming that's what they are) by making the Jedi look like complete idiots. The acolyteyes Stars include Carrie-Anne Moss, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo, and will premiere on June 4 with two episodes on Disney Plus.
