LinkedIn users have a ton of connections in their network, but they don't communicate with many of them regularly. The professional social network is trying to make this happen through a new tab called “Catch Up” in the redesigned My Network section.
The new “Catch Up” tab will highlight aspects of your contacts, such as a new job, a work anniversary, or whether they're hiring. You can like their post with a tap or even start a DM conversation with an auto-generated message like “Congratulations on your third work anniversary.”
The company is moving options like connection requests, newsletter and event invitations, and connection recommendations to a new tab called “Grow.”
Last year, LinkedIn began testing a “Celebrations” landing page in the My Networks section. The page listed milestones such as job changes, birthdays and work anniversaries. However, it simply remained in beta.
The Microsoft-owned company is also launching a new ai-powered messaging feature that helps premium users compose a first message to someone on LinkedIn even if they're offline. The social network said it uses data from both profiles to help form the message. The feature has prompts ready to introduce yourself or ask the other person for advice or work experience. Users can edit this message before sending it.
LinkedIn has leveraged ai in multiple functions so far. Last year it launched ai-assisted writing features for creating profiles, ads, conversation starters for collaborative articlesand recruitment. In October 2023, it introduced an ai-powered learning assistant that advises users in areas such as interpersonal skills.
In an article published last month, LinkedIn said that 85% of people in the United States are considering changing jobs. With companies like Amazon, Google, Snap, Microsoft, eBay and Discord cut their workforces, you would expect LinkedIn to be at the center of work-related activities. In January, the company launched a new tool called “Job Collections” to search for vacancies through different filters.
