The new Terminator anime coming to Netflix looks absolutely brutal in a trailer that dropped this weekend. Terminator zero It takes place in 2022 and 1997 (the year of Judgement Day, as described in Terminator 2) and focuses on new characters: Eiko and scientist Malcom Lee, who are being hunted by a Terminator. The series was produced by Skydance and Production IG, the Japanese animation studio behind Ghost in the shell and Psycho-Pass Pass.
Fittingly, it premieres on August 29, in a nod to the date of the fictional nuclear annihilation event. You can watch the new trailer below, but just a heads up for those who don't like anime gore, this clip is chock full of it.
Netflix also released a six-minute sneak peek of the show's tense opening on its companion site, earlier this week. It begins in a nightmarish version of 2022 before traveling back in time. According to the site:
Later in 1997, Eiko arrives to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee (André Holland), who is working to launch a new artificial intelligence system designed to compete with Skynet's impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm grapples with the moral complexities of his creation, he is hunted by a relentless assassin from the future, forever altering the fate of his three children.
The show was first teased when Netflix released a trailer under the working title of Terminator: The anime seriesThe first season will have eight episodes and, dare I say, it looks pretty good.
