It's been a decade, but we finally have a trailer for the live-action version. A Minecraft movieThe first teaser comes courtesy of a video posted by Warner Bros. today that clocks in at just over a minute, but hey, we’ll take it. The movie studio has confirmed that its previous target of April 4, 2025, is still going ahead with a theatrical-only release. Yes, it once had release dates for May 2019 and March 2022, but the existence of a teaser has us feeling a little more hopeful (gullible?) this time around.

Nacho Libre The director joins his former leading man, Jack Black, who plays Minecraft's Steve. The cast is rounded out by Jason Momoa, Emma Meyers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Jennifer Coolidge. Watch the trailer for a first glimpse into a world where, as Black says, “anything you can dream of here, you can make it happen.”
For the uninitiated, Minecraft is literally the best-selling video game of all time, with sales of over 350 million. Originally released by indie developer Mojang Studios, Microsoft purchased the studio and the game’s IP in 2014 for a staggering $2.5 billion. It’s an open-world sandbox with no real defined goals, allowing players to build anything they can think of. Of course, there have been a number of spin-off games that have more focused gameplay. As for the movie, it’s been stuck in development hell for a long time — it was first announced in 2014, the same year Microsoft purchased Mojang.
