Atlus Person The franchise is largely a console series, but has a strong portable heritage. There were excellent portable versions of Persona 3 and Persona 4and Persona 5 Real on Nintendo Switch it was great too. Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new fantasy JRPG from the team behind those beloved Persons. And although the game takes place in a different universe, many of the core elements are present in Metaphor – meaning it's an equally excellent portable experience.
Maybe I'm falling short when I say Metaphor is Person-as. The game's user interface is exceptionally eye-catching. You will spend a lot of time talking to your allies and improving your ties with them. Days pass as you navigate extensive dungeons and spend time with your companions before a looming deadline. The main characters even undergo epic transformations in which an organ is brutally ripped from their body while a mysterious voice speaks in “thous” and “haths.” Once, while taking notes on the game, I called him Person rather Metaphor. It's that similar.
But that means a lot of what it does Person fantastic games portable titles it works for Metaphoralso. Battles tend to be quick, meaning that if you have a few minutes, you can go through several to clear a dungeon floor. Doing activities on a game day is enough to feel like you're making progress. Some parts of the game feature long episodes of text, but when I play right before going to sleep, seeing what happens next can feel like an exciting chapter in a great book.
I'm playing Metaphor on the Steam platform. The game is listed on Steam as Playable instead of Verified, and while it is playable, performance is inconsistent, especially in the areas of the city I have visited. (Cities are pretty busy places, with lots of characters and things happening.) I actually limited the game to 30fps in settings, although it can run faster, just because I didn't want to deal with variable frame rates.
But fortunately, Metaphor It is not a game that demands perfect performance. In dungeons, you can attack enemies in real time to try to jump over them, but I found that the drops in frame rate didn't hinder my ability to perform a successful blitz. Anyway, all battles are turn-based, and a few frame drops didn't make much of a difference to me there.
I'm more than fine dealing with some issues; be able to take Metaphor wherever you want it's amazing. I play it almost every night before I fall asleep, I play it on the couch on weekends while my new baby naps, and I even took my Steam Deck on two recent business trips just so I could get in a few sessions when I had free time .
There is one more way Metaphor it's like him Person series: It's absolutely huge.. But a game that lasts dozens of hours is much more manageable when you can play whenever and wherever you want.
