Bluesky's most prominent backer has left its board of directors.
On Saturday, Jack Dorsey posted on x about open protocol grants from his Start Small philanthropy initiative. This led to someone asking Dorsey if he was still on the Bluesky board, and he twitter.com/jack/status/1786739952627208579?s=46&t=sVvVqfqtrpFRLF39Bfwg9w”>answered with a brief “no.” Dorsey did not respond to any follow-up posts asking her to explain his departure.
It is unclear when Dorsey left the board; starting Sunday morning, Bluesky Corporate FAQ it still identified him as a board member. Later that afternoon, the company published the following statement:
We sincerely thank Jack for his help in funding and starting the bluesky project. Today, Bluesky is thriving as an open source social network running on atproto, the decentralized protocol we created.
With Jack's departure, we are seeking a new board member at public benefit company Bluesky who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!
