The first batch of third-party apps is arriving on AltStore PAL, just over three months after the alternative iOS app store first launched in the EU. Three of the four apps launching today are AltStore PAL Exclusive and cannot be found in Apple's official iOS App Store. Apps developed by people other than AltStore PAL co-creator Riley Testut include two torrent apps and a social discovery app for dating.
Specifically, the new additions include: iTorrenta torrent client for iOS that can be used without jailbreaking iPhones or iPads, and q-bit controlto qBittorrent Remote client for iOS devices. People on the loose it's a focused on dating “social discovery platform” that connects you with other users in the real world as they pass by. And finally, there is the UTMSE application to emulate other operating systems such as Windows, Linux and macOS on iOS.
Apple bans all torrent apps from its own iOS store, claiming that they are “They are often used to infringe the rights of third parties.” But now that the EU’s Digital Markets Act has weakened the tech giant’s ability to police its walled garden, iOS users within the bloc can exercise a little more freedom (and accept more risks) over the apps they choose to install.
