Instagram is testing a sticker creation feature that will allow users to create custom stickers from their own photos (and other users’, in some cases) and place them on Reels or Stories. While Meta has been banking on message-based ai-generated stickers lately, this tool is something much simpler. It will simply select the theme of a photo and remove the background, creating a floating sticker that can be placed over other content.
Adam Mosseri gave a brief demonstration of how it will work in a video shared on his streaming channel. He also said that in addition to creating stickers from photos saved on their phone, users will be able to create them from “eligible images they see on Instagram.” Mosseri didn’t share more details on this, but suggests that users will be able to choose to make their images taggable.
It’s still just a test and hasn’t been rolled out to all users, so we’ll see what it really looks like over time. Last week, the platform also began testing a new poll feature, which will appear in the comments section below feed posts.
