Instagram Notes, the social network’s recently launched text status feature that reminds me of the AOL Instant Messenger messages from my youth, is expanding to the EU, UK and Japan this week, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri announced on monday. The rollout will begin Monday, spokeswoman Christine Pai said in an email to the edge.
Notes are short text posts of up to 60 characters that float over your profile icon and disappear after 24 hours. The feature officially launched in December, and Mosseri says it has done “very well” in Asia, North America and Latin America and “specifically with teens.” The subsequent rollout in Europe and Japan was to ensure the feature complied with local regulations, Mosseri said.
While Mosseri’s tweet announces that Notes will be released “worldwide,” me and some US-based. Edge the companions do not have it. Pai is looking into it and told me that the feature should be fully rolled out to both platforms in the US, but I want to point out the gaps in case you’re not seeing the feature. (I don’t use Instagram very much, so in my case, it could definitely be user error.)
but if you do If you have access to Notes and want to share some emo lyrics to kick off your Monday (though they’ll need to be under 60 characters), check out our guide on how to use the feature.
