HP just announced HP Print ai, which is being touted as the “industry’s first intelligent printing experience.” In addition to featuring technology’s favorite two letters (ai), the software seeks to “simplify and improve printing from setup to support.” There are several tools here, but the most interesting aspect is something called Perfect Output.
In fact, this could solve the problem of printing from web pages, which typically produces something that barely exceeds absolute garbage. The company claims that the built-in algorithms will reduce all that unnecessary white space and remove the ads.
Image size will also be optimised, so printing from a website should look just as good as if it had been done from a word processor. HP claims that everything will “fit perfectly on the page first time”. Perfect Output isn’t just for websites, as the company claims it will also make it easier to work with spreadsheets, which are another frustrating material to print.
This feature is starting to roll out today, but only to select customers as a beta. HP told Engadget that Perfect Output will work with any of the company’s printers, as long as the correct driver is installed and it’s connected to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 machine. Once customer feedback comes in, it should be released in a broader release.
HP Print ai will also use artificial intelligence to personalize support for each user. The company claims its “intelligent technology anticipates” consumer needs. HP says this will be especially helpful when it comes to setup and remembering user preferences. There’s also a chatbot that allows for language-based queries, which runs off a proprietary LLM the company calls a “print language model.” So technically, it’s a… oops, PLM.
For now, these tools are tied to the driver software. HP says they will be featured prominently in an upcoming update to the app planned for next year.
