Before announcing new phones during Monday's It's Glowtime iPhone 16 launch event in Cupertino, Apple executives talked up the company's latest smartwatch series. Rumors suggested we might get an Apple Watch x instead of the Apple Watch Series 10, if the company borrowed the naming scheme from its 2017 iPhone. But that didn't happen — in fact, it's the Apple Watch Series 10In addition to the flagship wearable, we also saw the announcement of a new finish for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Sadly, after a two-year wait, the Apple Watch SE has not been updated to a third generation. The new Apple Watch 10 is now available for pre-order and should start shipping on September 20. Here's how to reserve yours.
The Apple Watch has always been available in two sizes: for the past few generations, the options were 41mm or 45mm cases. Now, with the Apple Watch 10You can choose between 46mm or 42mm. The wearable has a wide-angle OLED display and now comes in two metal finishes: aluminum or titanium. And despite the larger screen, it's 10 percent thinner than its predecessor and lighter overall.
Inside, there's a new S10 SIP and a new built-in depth gauge, just like the Ultra, for diving and other underwater activities. The accelerometer sensor will now help detect “breathing disturbances” to potentially identify sleep apnea.
Apple’s latest wearable will be compatible with watchOS 11, which we learned about during WWDC in June. The software brings with it a host of new health and fitness-focused features that will be supported on the new wearable, such as Training Load and a new Vitals app.
We're big fans of the previous generation, the Apple Watch Series 9, and its Double Tap features. We even named it the best smartwatch you can buy. Once we get our hands on this new model to test, we'll let you know if it lives up to the high expectations created by its predecessor.
The new Apple Watch 10 comes in a new polished jet black aluminum color, along with rose gold and silver aluminum. New Titanum finishes include natural, gold, and slate. The watches start at $399 for the aluminum case and $699 for the titanium case. Preorders opened on the day of the event at the Apple Store, and the wearables should begin shipping on September 20.
He Apple Watch Ultra 2 It didn't get an update, but it does have a new black finish and a new titanium Milanese strap.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 remains available in just one size, 49mm, and is now available in black or titanium. It costs $799 and, like everything else announced, will be available for pre-order today with units arriving in stores on September 20.
