Valve just released a 25th anniversary update for Half life That adds a ton of new content, some welcome quality of life improvements, and even Steam Deck support, according to an announcement on he Half life website. Additionally, you can download the game for free for a limited time.
Let’s start with the added content. The game now includes Half-Life Uplink, a “mini-campaign” that was originally available only on CDs from magazines and hardware manufacturers, the company says. There are four new multiplayer maps that Valve says “push the limits of what is possible in the Half life engine.” Valve also added multiplayer maps and character models from a CD called Half-life: more data.
Valve also added some new settings, including the ability to play with a panoramic field of view and support for “an appropriate gamepad setup.” The game’s user interface has been updated to accommodate larger screens. (“We built most of this stuff for 640×480 CRTs and apparently some of you have updated it since then,” Valve says.) Half life It is now verified by Steam Deck, meaning it should work fine on Steam Deck without any tampering. (Could be a great game to check out on the newly released OLED Steam Deck!)
You should really check out all the changes and the extensive list of patch notes. This is a substantial update.. There are a couple of important notes at the end: the anniversary edition is now “the definitive version” of Half life, says Valve, but the previous version of the game is still available in a “steam_legacy” beta branch. Valve will also “reduce the visibility” of Half-life: source.
