NotebookLM from Google now technology/ai/notebooklm-update-october-2024/”>allows you to customize your podcast-like audio overviews. Before generating a discussion using the note-taking app, you can give your ai hosts instructions on what topic you'd like them to focus on, or even tailor your discussions for different audiences.
Google launched NotebookLM Audio Overviews last month, with two ai servers offering a “lively” discussion of their research. The company notes that its Audio Summaries are not intended to be a “complete or objective overview of a topic” and are “simply a reflection of the sources you have uploaded and the instructions you provide.”
To customize the chat, open a notebook in NotebookLM, select “Notebook Guide,” and then navigate to the “Deep Chat” option. From there, press “Custom” and enter the instructions you want your ai hosts to follow. NotebookLM will then generate a conversation based on the instructions you have provided.
In addition to removing the “experimental” label from NotebookLM, Google is introducing background listening for audio overviews, allowing you to listen to the ai presenters' discussion while you work on other areas of the app. Last month, Google also added the ability for NotebookLM to drill down into YouTube videos with transcripts.
