Since 2020, Chromecast with Google TV has been one of the best ways to add more streaming options to an existing setup, thanks in part to the fact that you can often find the devices on sale. Until then, Amazon has discounted both variants of the transmission device before Super Bowl weekend. After a 20 percent discount, you can buy the 4K version for just under $40 right now. Meanwhile, at $19.98, the HD variant is at a new all-time low.
The 4K and HD versions of Chromecast with Google TV are great options if you’re on a budget or prefer how Google does things over its competitors. Engadget gave the 4K version a score of 2020. Highlights included excellent Google Assistant integration, a convenient and easy-to-use remote control, and the inclusion of Dolby Vision and Atmos support. The HD variant is and is a compelling option if you haven’t upgraded to a 4K TV yet. Poor performance used to be one of the reasons to skip a Chromecast with the Google TV system, but last summer Google addressed that issue. For that reason, unless you’re willing to spend a lot more for something like an Apple TV, it’s hard to go wrong with one of Google’s streaming devices.
