Google announced a ton of new things last week, from Gemini 2.0 and Project Mariner to Android XR and Project Moohan. As always with Google, there seems to be a lot stuff without necessarily a coherent plan behind it. But if you look closely enough and start putting some of the pieces together, the combination of those announcements could result in something resembling Google's vision for the future of everything.
In this episode of The Vergecast (our last Tuesday episode of the year), The edgeKylie Robison and Victoria Song join the show to solve some Google puzzles. They describe their experiences with all of Google's new projects and experiments and explain why Google believes XR could be the ultimate application for ai, and vice versa.
After that, Chris Grant, group editor of The edge and Polygonjoins us to talk about the two biggest stories of 2025 in gaming: the impending releases of Grand theft car VI and Nintendo Switch 2. Explain why GTA is such an important and long-lasting gaming franchise, why are you confident that Switch 2 won't be like the Wii U, and why the entire gaming world is waiting so hard for these two things.
Finally, we answer a question from the Vergecast hotline (call 866-VERGE11 or email [email protected]!), with the help of The edge editor Helen Havlak. Helen mentioned last week that she uses Figma to manage her garden and let's just say everyone had some follow-up questions about it. Then Helen came back to explain her whole system.
