Gmail experienced some issues with delayed emails twice this week: on Thursday and again on Friday.
On Thursday at 12:31 pm ET, Google wrote in Gmail Workspace Status Dashboard that “customers affected by this issue may see a delay in emails being sent,” but at 5:03 p.m. ET, the company posted an update stating that things have been fixed.
Thursday's problems affected at least two of us here at The edge. That same day, emails sent from our personal emails to our work accounts took a while to appear. Interestingly, emails from our work emails to our personal Gmails sent fine. 9to5Google reported the oppositefinding that personal emails were working as expected, while Workspace account emails were not arriving as expected.
On Friday, Google reported in a Gmail status message at 2:24 pm ET that email delays reappeared starting at 1:52 pm ET. These issues were resolved more quickly and Google confirmed at 3:36 pm ET that everything was fixed.
Downdetector showed that more than 700 people reported problems with Gmail On Thursday and Friday, Downdetector reports peaked at just over 100, so there may not have been widespread issues. But for those who were dealing with problems, it was probably a hassle, especially in the middle of two business days in the United States.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
