Xbox is Their process for forming connections on the gaming platform. Their new method works like, well, almost any other social platform, where you send a friend request that is either accepted or rejected.
This seems like the most obvious way for this feature to work, but Xbox took a more passive approach to friends in the last console generation. The way it works in the current system is that anyone can add another Xbox account to their follower list. When two accounts follow each other, they upgrade to friends.
The change shouldn't make a huge difference to players' social tab. If they're already friends, they'll remain friends. If they're not mutual friends, they'll still follow the account. That means they can still keep up to date with updates from individuals, clubs, and games within the Xbox ecosystem.
Xbox is also rolling out new privacy and notification options to help manage the return of friendship, so players can set who can follow them or send them friend requests. The blog post didn’t provide a release date for the public launch of the new friend system, but it’s available starting this week as a preview for people participating in the Xbox Insiders program.
Today’s announcement is the latest in a wave of Xbox news over the past month. The company also laid out plans for an all-digital Xbox Series x.
