Epic has introduced a new tool to document toxic behavior in fortnite. Players will now have access to Voice Reports, which will continuously record voice chats in 5-minute segments for players to present as evidence to moderators when reporting harassment and other forms of harassment. For anyone under 18 years of age, this feature will be activated automatically.
fortnite Players 18 and older will have a little more say in how voice reports are applied. In the main settings of the game, you will have the option to set it to “Always on”, which would apply to all channels you are on, or “Off when possible”, which will turn it off on party with friends channels always and when everyone’s preferences coincide.
In what is likely an effort to calm privacy concerns, Epic says that audio clips will not be retained for long and will only be stored locally on the user’s device unless presented as evidence. And, in those cases, you will have to act quickly. As each new recording arrives, the previous one will be deleted. “This means that only the immediate last five minutes of audio are reportable,” Epic said.
Under normal circumstances, audio clips will be automatically deleted after 14 days or once action has been taken, the company added. If the accused player appeals the decision within that period, it may be extended for another 14 days. However, Epic says it will retain an audio clip for as long as necessary if required by law.
The move follows similar actions by Microsoft, Sony and others in the recent past as they attempt to clamp down on harmful online behavior. Earlier this year, along with reports of abuse in voice chats.
