Ford is manufacturing its own special branded adapter to allow access to the Tesla Supercharger for its electric vehicle customers. The automaker will offer its new adapter alongside the current one produced by Tesla for customers who still waiting for a complementary adapter and we will start shipping it today.
The adapters are being manufactured by electric vehicle equipment supply company Lectron, which has already manufactured its own NACS to CCS “Vortex” adapters. Lectron previously had to recall its adapters due to a design defect where it could not unlock while charging.
Lectron CEO Christopher Maiwald said in an interview about the state of charge that the problem had been solved. In an email to The edgeFord public relations representative Eddie Fernandez wrote that the new adapters are not connected to the ones Ford asked customers to stop using. “The replacement adapters affected as part of that customer satisfaction program were a small portion of the total supply,” Fernandez said.
Ford recently launched its Power Promise campaign to help electric vehicle “hesitants” adjust to the lifestyle, offering a free home charger with standard installation.
