Ford and TXU Energy, one of the largest electricity providers in Texas, have partnered to make it easier for customers to get Free EV charging at home. Owners of newer Ford EVs and plug-in hybrids who enroll in TXU Free EV Miles Program can get the full credit back on their utility bill if they charge during TXU's 18-hour free period.
In A press releaseFord says its goal is to “educate Texans about the benefits of driving an electric vehicle.” The agreement, “the first of its kind,” will incentivize customers to charge during off-peak hours. The free hours will be between 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. the next day. (Charging at other times will cost the same as any other home electricity use.)
In an email to The edgeFord PR representative Eddie Fernandez wrote that the program is “currently scheduled through 2026 with the goal of continuing.” The program is currently exclusive to Ford customers but could expand to other automakers in the future, according to Fernandez, who also confirms that Lincoln plug-in hybrids are included in the deal.
To qualify for the free charging offer, you'll need to give TXU access to your Ford plug-in vehicle's charging information through the My Ford Pass app, which will then be linked to your electric provider's billing system.
