Views will be measured not only on video content but also on photos, text posts, and more. When the head of instagram, Adam Mosseri <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/C-X7FtePYyj/”>announced After the shift to views this summer, he said having a consistent metric across the platform would make it easier for creators to understand how their content is performing. For Reels, a view is the number of times the video was played. For everything else, a view is the number of times a piece of content appears on a user's screen, and if the same user looks at it multiple times, each instance counts as a view.
Meta also added a view count to posts in Threads, saying it's an effort to give creators more transparency about the performance of their content. While the metric may be useful for brands, it's probably not as revealing for the average person: It's one thing for Meta to tell you how many screens your posts appeared on, but it's another entirely to explain why.
Views have been one of Elon Musk's pet projects since he took over twitter, now called arbitrary and, as any influencer knows, can change in the blink of an eye: platforms update and encourage users to prioritize different metrics based on what is good for the business. And right now, Meta just wants you to keep scrolling.
