aiEDU, or The AI Education Project, is an artificial intelligence literacy program designed to help teachers and students navigate the rapidly growing world of AI for education.
This free to use non-profit platform is here to help people learn how AI really works, in the face of more and more apps adopting this ever-growing technology. This makes a lot of sense as it helps students and teachers see the workings behind the AI so they can think critically before using a tool.
The website is very easy to use and has materials that can be used digitally as well as downloadable content, making it ideal for classroom and home use. This guide is intended to help you understand what aiEDU offers and how it can be helpful to teachers and students at this time.
What is AIEDU?
AIEDU, short for The AI Education Project, does what the name suggests by offering training for teachers, students, and any other learners who want to see how the ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence plays out. This is an AI literacy education platform.
aiEDU is very adaptable in its offerings, so you can visit it as someone who wants to learn a bit about the subject of AI in a five-minute overview, or as someone who wants to dig deeper and take a nine-week course.
Consequently, the various resources can be adapted and used as needed, either as a specific course, for students, or perhaps as a module section to fit into an ongoing course. However you choose to process the available resources, they should help encourage independent thinking about AI and its uses.
With research-based strategies, this platform offers educational techniques and resources for computer science, math, English, social studies, science, CTE, and more.
How does AIEDU work?
aiEDU has everything available online for immediate access by teachers and students, without the need to give any details; just navigate to what you need and get started right away.
Since this system is completely online, it can be accessed from almost any web browser with an Internet connection. Select the “Students” tab, for example, and you can dive right into AI challenges for everyday use, AI building projects, a five-minute overview, and more.
Or go to the ‘Teachers’ tab to be offered a selection of modules including ‘Introduction to AI’ aimed at grades 9-12 and comprising 35-45 minute sessions. AI Snapshots for grades 7-12 have 180 five minute warm ups. And there’s Project Dashboard, for grades 9-12, with independent or teacher-led projects.
The website couldn’t be easier to navigate, and with a wide selection of options, it should be welcoming to a wide range of students, as well as different levels of tech-savvy or less tech-friendly teachers.
What are the best features of aiEDU?
aiEDU offers great five-minute introductory exercises that can give anyone a taste of what’s to come, while teaching them the basics of AI right from the start, all making it very accessible.
A really useful section is the AI Challenges page, which allows you to interact with current AI systems to learn not only how they work and how you can use them, but also how AI works in general.
Many of the learning activities are hands-on, so this helps keep students of different ages and abilities engaged. The focus on the data, its quality, and any biases associated with it are very useful focus points to help teach students to think critically when using these AI tools.
Since this curriculum was built with Google Slides, it makes accessing across devices, as well as sharing, very simple. Additionally, you can easily print any material that is relevant to physical use to draw students away from screens as needed.
Everything is free of coding, making it accessible to everyone, thanks to the use of a platform called Hugging Face that allows students to create AI projects even without prior knowledge.
How much does aiEDU cost?
aiEDU is a non-profit setup, so there is no charge for anything it offers. There is no tracking and no ads.
In addition, you do not have to give any personal information to start using everything that is available here. So this is totally free and available to all.
