Key points:
Educators and school administrators are working incredibly hard so that all students, and especially their most challenged populations, meet high standards and graduate ready for the university and/or a career. So are local workforce meetings, literacy groups and other community organizations.
Despite these efforts, a large percentage of students are still being achieved below the degree level, and many fight to be financially independent of graduation.
All these people and organizations are working independently within their own spheres of influence to help students achieve success. But if they joined and work together, taking advantage of the considerable strengths of others in support of common objectives, their shared efforts could get families out of poverty and put students on a way to success.
This is what the city of Fresno, California, is doing, with its initiative for prosperity of Central Valle Local industry, Lititeracy and Clear, or the Equity and Leadership Research Center.
Directed by Jobwhich provides opportunities for professional education included in literacy for students from preschool to high school, the collective efforts of Fresno demonstrate the power of large -scale associations to transform students' results.
RICA CARRERA LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Central Valley Pathway to Prosperity is a multipobrine initiative that includes practical learning activities both inside and outside school at all levels of instruction.
Younger students receive fundamental literacy instruction during regular school day, and are learning about exciting professional opportunities after school. This professional discovery and exploration also includes integrated literacy instruction, creating additional opportunities to learn to read and write effectively. We believe that this is a powerful combination of one and two to give children the basic components they need for success.
For example, Baird Middle School students are testing a program after the 14 -week school that uses video game design to teach students essential literacy skills. As students design their own game and present it to community members in a series of Shark tank-The parks, not only learn about careers in games design and marketing, but also develop their reading, writing and speech skills.
The game design plan was developed together with Link2Literacy, an organization founded by Valerie Martínez. As former director of the Baird intermediate school, Martínez created a model of excellence throughout the state. Under his leadership, Baird received an award from the Golden Schools of California for three years in a row.
At the secondary level, we are bringing local industry partners to the table to create professional and technical education programs for students in high -level professional fields, such as cybersecurity, digital marketing and ai.
Cybersecurity is a guaranteed path to financial freedom. Each company and organization needs cybersecurity professionals. There is unemployment of zero percent in this field, and with the right industry certifications, students can earn $ 75,000 a year directly outside the high school.
Under the leadership of Kristen Boroski, director of CTE for the Unified School District of Fresno, the Central Valley Pathway to Prosperity Coalition is working with local companies to create paid internship programs for students in cybersecurity. We are also exploring associations with Kaiser to create a CTE program focused on using ai in the health industry and with amazon to create a modern manufacturing and logistics program, among other efforts.
Stronger together
Bringing multiple groups of interested parties to the table allows school systems to take advantage of the collective strengths of these associated organizations to help students succeed. It also opens more financing opportunities from a diverse collection of financiers.
In the Central Valley, for example, these sources of financing include not only federal and state subsidies programs for CTE activities and after school, but also donors and corporate and private foundations, many of which would prefer to finance programs and activities that Involve numerous flagonura projects.
Breaking of our silos and gathering multiple groups of interested parties in support of our students creates a tremendous synergy within the communities. There is so much power that we can get by making all our ships navegen in the same direction.
At the national level, two out of three students are reading below the degree level. There are about 7 million jobs waiting to be full because employers cannot find candidates with the right skills. By gathering a diverse variety of community partners, we can solve these challenges and establish students on a way to success.
