A wordle is a word cloud created from words. The more frequent a word appears in the input text, the larger its size will be in the word. In fact, Wordle Arts has enormous educational potential and can be used in various learning activities. For example, students can use word makers to summarize a text or passage they have read.
They can also use them to quickly scan a document and develop an initial idea of what it is about even before reading the full text. Word clouds are also perfect for activities related to creating art and visual presentations, collecting student feedback, writing book reviews, visualizing data from tables and surveys, and much more.
All of these tools are free or offer free plans. The standard word cloud generation process consists of three steps: first enter your text, which can be done by simply typing it directly into the word cloud generator, paste it, or import a document file.
Second, edit your wordle. For example, you can edit the layout of your word clouds, change the text font, edit background colors, and more. Depending on the word builder you choose, the editing features are different from tool to tool. The third and final step is to generate and share your final word in the format of your choice (for example, SVG, PNG, or JPEG).
1- word art
Formerly Tagul, Word Art is a great word cloud art generator for teachers and students. You can easily create professional-looking word art without any knowledge of graphic design. The process is simple: enter your text, click View, and then customize your word cloud.
You can type your text or import it from a CSV or Excel file. You can then edit your Wordle Art the way you want. For example, click Shapes to apply a particular shape to your word cloud. The shapes are arranged in multiple categories including Emoji, Hearts, Money, Nature, Numbers, Christmas, People, and many more.
You can also change the font and layout of your text (eg, horizontal, vertical, down slope, up slope, dancing words, crossing words, and more). Click Styles to change the color of the words, select the background color or make it transparent, change the background image and animation speed, choose a dynamic text color, and more.
One cool feature that caught my eye about Word Art is the ability to animate your art in the cloud. To apply animation to your wordle art, click Animate from the toolbar at the top of the tag cloud and then hover over any word to see the beautiful animation.
When your wordle arts are ready, you can download them in PNG or JPEG format. In order to download them in High Quality (HQ) formats (ie HQ PNG, HG JPEG, HQ SVG vector, HQ PDF vector, HQ Animated HTML, HQ Custom), you will need to pay. Word Art offers several one-time purchase plans and packages.
2- word cloud generator
Another great tool for making wordles. MonkeyLearn’s WordCloud Generator is powered by artificial intelligence that allows it to generate tag clouds with a higher accuracy rate. Unlike EdWordle, WordCloud Generator gives you three ways to enter your text: you can type it, paste it, or upload a text file.
The maximum number of characters that can be parsed with this word maker is 200000 characters. Using the toolbar at the top of the generated word cloud, you can easily change the theme of your word, edit the color of the text, customize the background color with the ability to apply a transparent background, change the font of the text and the number of words, and much more.
Another cool feature of MonkeyLearn is the ability to create word clouds with phrases based on the collocations embedded in your text. Your final word can be downloaded in .SVG or .PNG format. In order to use MonkeyLearn, you must register.
3- edwordle
EdWordle is a good word builder to use with students in class to generate beautiful visual representations of words. The way it works is simple and easy and there is no registration or software download required. Just enter your text and hit send. You can, for example, choose to group similar words together, remove stop words, choose how many words you want to display in your wordle, and much more. When your word cloud is generated, you can further edit its design, change its background color, add or remove certain words, change the font of the text, and more. Please note that EdWordle only supports the English language.
