Washington, Connecticut Depot – Slotthe pioneer in delivering live online telescopic universe broadcasts and NGSS-aligned curriculum to school communities around the world, is launching a new earth science curriculum for students in grades 5-9. The curriculum offers contextual learning activities that use transmissions from Earth's orbital satellites to engage students in real-world learning as they explore important geography, geology, and environmental science concepts, as well as learn about various careers in the world. space IT field.
“Using aggregated satellite data from our partners at SkyFi, the new Earth sciences curriculum allows students to explore, capture and analyze real-world phenomena within the Slooh platform like never before,” said Michael Paolucci, founder of Slooh. “We are hopeful that by providing greater opportunities to authentically learn about our home planet, students will be more interested and prepared to one day pursue careers in the space and STEM industries.”
The new NGSS-aligned Earth Science curriculum is designed for Earth science and career and technical education IT courses. The curriculum leverages the Slooh learning platform, which allows students to easily capture images that identify features of the Earth's surface and atmospheric phenomena, as well as participate in a variety of engaging Quest learning activities that cover natural disasters, landmarks, urban business planning and more. There are a number of missions that also focus specifically on satellite IT and space situational awareness to teach students how satellites are manufactured, launched, maintained and monitored.
During missions, students collect and analyze data to form their own conclusions during self-directed and educator instruction. Quests help students learn important concepts in a truly accessible, unique, innovative and engaging way.
As part of its development effort, Slooh will launch a beta version of the new Earth Sciences curriculum in January 2025 for users to access from the Slooh learning platform at no additional cost. The company will continually collect user feedback to refine the curriculum and better meet the needs of educators and students.
