LEGO EducationDr. Jenny Nash, Director of Educational Impact, previewed compelling and surprising data on America's student disengagement crisis. The number one barrier to engagement in learning according to administrators is that “the curriculum does not apply broadly to all student abilities.” Only 1 in 3 (37%) American parents say their children tell them about their day every day without parental prompting. Teachers say the current lack of commitment to learning in K-8 leads to:
- Increase in behavioral problems (61%)
- Poor retention of what has been learned (56%)
- Lack of confidence in the subject (50%)
- Superficial knowledge of materials (50%)
- Increase in absenteeism/tardies (48%)
- Inability to apply what was learned in the real world (43%)
- Not being prepared for the future (42%)
- Test results declining (38%)
The findings reaffirm core aspects of LEGO Education's approach: hands-on, playful learning is a powerful approach to re-engage students in the classroom and equips them with critical, future-ready skills.
