Teachers have successfully integrated ai in many aspects of education, including qualification, planning lessons and even the monitoring of assistance, however, there is still some apprehension. Many schools and districts have established formal guidelines and policies of ai to help direct educators in the right direction, but it does not always result in the complete adoption of ai .
Pete Just, Executive Director of the Cto de Indiana Council, discusses the complexities of approaching ai in education, ai adoption strategies and how to calm the fear that comes with the use of ai in the classroom. Recently presented on this topic in spring Conference .

When technological innovation is added to education, the adoption process can be fast or can be measured. The ai , surprisingly that it is sometimes, seems to be taking a more measured trajectory in schools.
“I thought we would follow a much more aggressive adoption curve due to the transformative nature of what the generative ai brings to the table,” says Just. “But it also brings concern, and we need to mitigate that concern. What I mean with the general adoption cycle is that everyone is waiting for the other person to make the change and then observe what they are doing and say: 'It's okay, that's not so bad. That has some benefits. We could do that'”.
Many are waiting for the “correct” way to use in the classroom to present themselves. While some are willing to make the leap to the use of ai , many doubt when it comes to altering how we teach students. One of the biggest challenges is to change this mentality so that students can gain practical experience using ai , since it will undoubtedly be an important part of their future careers.
<h2 id="changing-the-using-ai -is-cheating-narrative-3″>Changing the narrative of “Using ai is cheating”
If a student uses ai for a task, is it technically a form of trap? Can you label like plagiarism? Is a student's ability to think critically or solve problems?
“If you are not helping your students to understand what we are talking about with a generative ai , what could you contribute, how to use it, how to think about asking those questions or request, how to think critically about the review of the answers or production, you are doing a bad service to your students,” says Justo.
What about those who use the classroom effectively?
“They don't see it as a trap. They see it as a amplifier,” says Just. “So, what we have to do is that we have to get ahead. What we are doing is to help school districts strategically think about how they can amplify what they do inside their school district and really turbocargue in many ways, while protecting students' data and placing wardrobe in their place.”
ai has become a tool that can help students bring students closer in terms of academic performance. Prepare ideas, unite understanding and improve participation can be complemented by the addition of ai , provided that teachers demonstrate how to do it effectively and ethically.
<h2 id="the-role-of-administrators-in-ai -adoption-3″>The role of administrators in the adoption of ai
Should an administrator use in his personal life to promote their use in a school or district regardless of existing guidelines? What should the administrators do exactly when it comes to the use of in education?
“There are a group of people who are in charge,” says Justo. “And his way of taking charge is to have the conversations with his school board, having conversations with their interested parties of the community, having conversations with their teachers and then determining what the feeling in our school community is about where we should go with this.”
Many educational decisions can be maintained due to the lack of will to act, so maintaining open lines of communication with interested parties with respect to ai can help guide the conversations that are needed. As it only says, ai can do incredible things for teachers, but they need the support of their decision makers to get where they want to go.
